Chieftain Construction & Development Inc. is a real estate development and general contracting company focused on remodeling and building custom homes in Greater Boston’s most desirable suburbs.
Our projects range from kitchen and bathroom renovations to ground-up new construction. While we operate primarily in the residential field, our extensive commercial construction background allows us to manage complex builds with confidence and efficiency.
As a licensed General Contractor (CS-107579 | HIC-186987), we oversee development, design, and construction from start to finish. What sets us apart is that we also self-perform critical trades which include electrical work and excavation/site work. This gives our clients greater control, accountability, and quality assurance.
Our Story
Building Excellence
Before founding Chieftain Construction & Development, owner Steve Meinelt built and scaled a successful retail business.
In 2007, he founded The Greater Boston Running Company in Lexington, MA, expanding to additional locations in Hingham and Newburyport. The company was voted a Top 50 Running Store in both 2010 and 2011. After selling the business in 2011, Steve remained in leadership roles, including District Store Manager, Interim VP of Operations, and Director of Store Development for the Running Specialty Group — owned by The Finish Line (FINL).
He was responsible for aggressive national expansion, overseeing location selection, development, and construction of new retail stores across the country. That experience in scaling operations, managing development, and building with intention now informs every Chieftain project.
